Happy Hour - RDJ2>> 15th & 20th February 2021

RDJ2 https://bit.ly/radiodj2 >> Happy Hour>> Monday 15th February (09:00EET & 21:00EET) & Saturday 20th February (19:45EET)>> "Songs from the Kitchen Disco" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, album released on November 13rd 2020.
Songs from the Kitchen Disco is the second greatest hits album by English singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor, released on 13 November 2020 by EGBG's, although it was previously announced for 23 October. It features singles from all her studio albums: Read My Lips (2001), Shoot from the Hip (2003), Trip the Light Fantastic (2007), Make a Scene (2011), Wanderlust (2014) and Familia (2016), as well as a number of cover versions of songs by other artists. Songs from the Kitchen Disco serves as the follow up to her previous release, the 2019 orchestral compilation album The Song Diaries. In 2019 Ellis-Bextor released The Song Diaries, her first compilation album. It consists primarily of orchestral versions of 15 of her solo singles, and a new track, a cover of Carlos William's "Love Is You". The album was produced by Ed Harcourt (who also produced her two last studio albums), with additional production by Richard "Biff" Stannard and Ash Howes. During that same year she also embarked on The Song Diaries Tour within the UK with a full orchestra and her band; the tour consisted on 14 dates, grouped in two legs, one in late spring and the other one in autumn.
During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, Ellis-Bextor, her husband, The Feeling bassist Richard Jones and their kids hosted a number of live shows via Instagram called Kitchen Disco Live every Friday night for 10 weeks. During these shows, she performed some of her songs (including non-single tracks), and a bunch of covers.
Songs from the Kitchen Disco received positive reviews from music critics and fans alike, many of whom associated the album with the Instragram Live shows held by Ellis-Bextor during the pandemic lockdown, emphasising her 20 years of solo career and the fine selection of singles and covers included.
Lauren Murphy from The Irish Times wrote "if the mark of a great song is that it works in any setting – be it a kitchen surrounded by small children hanging off your leg or on the dance floor of an actual club in the wee hours – this collection is evidence that the perennially-underestimated Ellis-Bextor has amassed more than a few of them over the last two decades" Nick Smith from MusicOMH called the collection "magnificent". Additionally, Clash's Robin Murray states: "Sophie Ellis-Bextor has shone fresh light on her inimitable pop approach, recasting these songs in her own manner. 'Songs from the Kitchen Disco' is the ideal tonic for those winter blues."

Happy Hour - RDJ2>> 8th & 13th January 2021 !

For those who love the music of the 80's but transposed in the style of the 2020s, Radio DJ2 https://bit.ly/radiodj2 comes on Happy Hour (Monday, 8 January at 09:00EET (08:00CET) & 21:00EET (20:00CET) and Saturday, 13 January only at 19:40EET (18:40CET)) with an synth-pop and synthwave album by Roger Shah pres. Jukebox 80's: "Nightride", album released on January 21st, 2021. The genre of this album is: Electronic, Lossless, Dance, Indie Dance, Synth-pop, Synthwave. The last ten months have seen many artists pivot, experiment, branch out and generally direct their attentions to other musical areas. To group the latest longplayer from Roger Shah in that though would be to overlook a musician who already album-moves out of ‘his lane’ one year in every two. Whether it’s through neo-classical soundtracks for yet-to-be-made films (ala last year’s Guardian Of Dreams) or yoga & wellbeing albums, Roger’s as regular an irregular as they come. Ahead of starting his latest departure, Roger was as clear as to what he didn’t want, as what he did. For its focal decade ‘Nightride’ trades in touchstones, inspirations & affections, whilst hurdling the pitfalls of pastiche & excess. Eschewing out-and-out synth-synthetics, across it fourteen tracks, resonance, chime and echo become its foundation blocks. In keeping with that most emotional of decades, the album tonally needle-swings between moodsome shade, mellow drama and exuberant effervescence. Throughout are knowing & appreciative nods to various 80s sub-genres - synthwave, electro and rare groove amongst them. ‘Nightride’ provides a mode-ish glide through notes of Vangelis, Faltermeyer, Clarke, Hancock & Hammer (Jan, rather than MC!), all projected through filters now more associated with Disclosure, Daft Punk and M83. At the album’s vanguard, you’ll find the sci-fi-scaped ‘Vintage Dreams’ – an overture with retrofuturistic implants and marked out by its carefully warped, dystopian synths. Shadowing it is ‘Nightride’s title track - a dramatic 808-snared standout, whose neon elements and vocoded pulse advance the album’s afterhours feel. Refusing to manage expectations, Roger drops ‘Firebird’ next - a slick six minutes of high gloss 80s reflection, laced with subtle but unmistakable echoes of Moroder’s ‘Scarface’ score. Vocals are more incidental to Jukebox 80s’ system, but when they do occur, Roger again ensures they echo rather than decade-pander. On the stunning ‘Stronghold’, Eve Belle strikes a fine line between the uplifting choruses of Belinda Carlisle and the brooding verse of Susanna Hoffs. ‘Bound’ features New Zealander Jackie Bristow and brings a rare groove-like bounce to its b-line, alongside a knowingly contemporary feel to its song. With a vibe far more elevating than its title suggests, ‘Hello Goodbye’ meanwhile has more of a Laura Branigan zip to its vox. As reflective as any mirrored-windowed skyscraper, the robo-soul of ‘Purple Skies In Your Eyes’ brings the vocoder back, while its analogue synths allude to The Human League. ‘Ripped Knees’ heightens ‘Nightride’s atmosphere again, but lowers the pace, using its more measured tempo to stretch the synth lines and amplify the emotion. In an album flush with bass, ‘Don’t You Say You Love’ pares the lower frequencies back to concentrate on chime, while its Jody Watley-like vocal aims straight for the soul. Through ‘A Spaceship Landing On A Magic Island’, Roger effortlessly links Jukebox 80s’ theme and his more renowned Balearic sound. Part Arthur Baker, Herbie Hancock & Daft Punk, the electro rock of ‘I Don’t Give A Damn’s ties the album off with seven funk fuelled minutes of needle scratching, synth riffing and bass dropping. A flashback to the decade that - electronically - birthed it all, ‘Nightride’ is less big hair, towering hi-fis, & car doors with ashtrays and much more neon, Rubiks & TDKs. Stripping away the excess and getting right to the electronic heart of it, it’s available to presale/save from today.
